DESCRIPTION: Mineral oil
APPLICATION: Use as an adjuvant for the immunization of antigen in experimental animals. This incomplete Freund’s adjuvant (IFA) is suitable for collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in rats and can also be used for booster injections of type II collagen to increase the incidence of CIA in mice.
NOTE: Use IFA instead of complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) to emulsify type II collagen for immunizing rats as rats are susceptible to adjuvant induced arthritis. To efficiently induce arthritis in rats, muramyl dipeptide (MDP, Cat # 9065) can be added to IFA.
QUANTITY: 5 ml
FORM: Solution
EMULSION: Emulsify with an equal volume of collagen using an electric homogenizer. The syringe-syringe method is not recommended to make collagen-IFA emulsions for inducing arthritis, but it can be used for obtaining anti-sera.
